Freshman Hudson Perry was interviewed by Emmet Clarke. Perry starred in recent games for the Whalers Ice Hockey Team and is making a strong impact as the Whalers fight for playoffs.
Q: Was there anyone in particular who sparked your interest in hockey?
Perry: I started playing hockey around 4, and it was my cousins Codie, Dylan, and Morgan Perry who got me interested.
Q: How does your new defensive role compare to your old attacking one?
Perry: Playing defense compared to forwarding is not a very big difference for me. I grew up playing defense my whole life and actually only started playing forward last year.
Q: What do you think of the new coaching staff?
Perry: The coaches are great. Coach Scott [Corbett] has been my coach for the past 2 years and is a great coach who has taught me a lot. I love being part of his teams. Coach Silas [Gilbert] is also a great coach. He has so much knowledge about the game and I have learned a lot in these past few months. coach Hickman has especially helped me grow as a player in all parts of the game.
Q: What has been your favorite game this season?
Perry: My favorite game this year has been against Sandwich in Gallo Arena. In that game, we lost 3-2, but I scored my first goal as a whaler. We lost 6-1 at home to them a few weeks earlier and were proved to ourselves that we have the talent to bear good hockey teams.
Q: What are your goals for the season and future?
Perry: My goal is to win our next 5 games and go from there. I’m not too worried about future goals until we clinch our spot in the tournament.
